About the Team
The Detection and Analytics Engineering (DAE) team at Zoom plays a crucial role in securing the platform. As part of the Detection and Response (D&R) organization, the DAE team is responsible for enhancing threat defense capabilities by developing advanced analytics models and tools. You’ll collaborate with other security teams, such as Security Monitoring and Logging, Threat Intel, Incident Response, SOC (Security Operations Center), and Offensive Security, to protect Zoom from both internal and external cyberattacks.
Key Responsibilities
As a Data Scientist in the security domain, your primary focus will be designing and developing data-driven solutions for threat detection. You’ll partner closely with InfoSec teams to ensure that the right security data sources are in place, enabling you to build analytics models that reduce noise and detect anomalies effectively. Here’s what you’ll be doing:
- Design Threat Detection Models: Develop data-driven solutions to handle threat detection, focusing on reducing noise and identifying significant anomalies.
- Data Source Collaboration: Work with InfoSec teams to integrate relevant security data sources and ensure comprehensive data coverage for threat detection.
- Big Data and Machine Learning: Leverage big data frameworks such as Hadoop and Spark along with machine learning libraries like Pandas and Scikit-learn to build and refine threat detection models.
- Cloud Security: Show proficiency in understanding threats and attacks targeting cloud environments (such as AWS, GCP, and Oracle) while contributing to endpoint and network-level analysis.
- Communication and Teamwork: Collaborate with cross-functional teams and share insights effectively to strengthen Zoom’s threat defense capabilities.
What You Bring to the Team
To succeed in this role, you’ll need to have a strong background in both data science and cybersecurity. Specifically, Zoom is looking for someone with:
- Experience in Data Analytics and Cybersecurity: Five or more years of experience in data analytics, with at least two to three years specifically focused on cybersecurity.
- Proficiency in Programming Languages: Expertise in programming languages such as Python, Scala, Java, or R.
- Familiarity with Machine Learning: Hands-on experience with data analytics and machine learning libraries, including Pandas and Scikit-learn.
- Big Data Expertise: Knowledge of big data frameworks like Hadoop and Spark, which are crucial for analyzing large-scale data sets.
- Cloud Security Knowledge: Basic understanding of threats and attacks targeting cloud infrastructure and familiarity with endpoint and network-level analysis.
- Excellent Communication Skills: The ability to communicate technical insights effectively with various teams across Zoom.
