About the Role: Reporting and Data Analyst

The FinOps and Data Governance team at S&P Global is responsible for enabling data-driven decision-making across the organization. The team focuses on two major areas:

  1. FinOps (Financial Operations): Managing and optimizing cloud financial operations, particularly with a focus on cloud cost allocation. This involves analyzing cloud cost data and publishing key performance indicators (KPIs) that track actionable cost-saving opportunities.

  2. Data Governance: Managing key metadata sets, including the Application, Service & Product Portfolio, Locations, and Cloud Service Accounts. This area focuses on ensuring data quality, consistency, and compliance across the organization.

As part of the FinOps and Data Governance team, the Reporting and Data Analyst will play a crucial role in driving the design, implementation, and support of the FinOps data lakehouse and reporting, alongside assisting in data governance tasks.

Key Responsibilities

The Reporting and Data Analyst role encompasses a variety of responsibilities that are essential for maintaining accurate, actionable, and insightful data:

  • Develop Reporting and Automation Solutions: Create and maintain solutions for cloud cost allocation, governance KPI publications, data governance tasks, and forecasting support.

  • Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams: Work closely with internal customers, data stewards, and other stakeholders to ensure that data requirements are met and solutions are optimized.

  • Data Analysis: Analyze and interpret complex data sets using tools such as Excel, Alteryx, Power BI, Python, SQL, Cloudability, and Dremio.

  • Data Quality Assurance: Assist in maintaining high standards of data quality and consistency through governance practices.

  • Documentation: Create and maintain clear and concise documentation for processes, reports, and solutions developed by the team.

  • Operational Support: Provide ongoing support for reports and solutions, ensuring that processes remain efficient and up-to-date.

  • Cloud Financial Operations: Assist in monitoring and allocating cloud costs, analyzing cloud cost data, and identifying cost-saving opportunities.

The ideal candidate for this position should possess the following qualifications:

  • Expertise in Excel: Proficiency in Excel is essential for this role as it is widely used for data analysis and reporting.

  • Experience with Analytical Tools: Familiarity with one or more of the following tools is highly desirable: Alteryx, SQL, Power BI, Python, Cloudability, Dremio.

  • Strong Analytical Skills: The role requires the ability to analyze complex data sets and develop actionable insights.

  • Communication and Collaboration: Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams are crucial.

  • Ability to Handle Multiple Tasks: Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks are necessary for success in this fast-paced role.

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications are considered a plus:

  • Experience in Cloud Cost Allocation: Familiarity with cloud cost allocation and forecasting is a bonus, as the role involves managing cloud financial operations.

  • Quality Assurance and Data Governance: Experience in quality assurance, testing, or data governance is an asset, particularly when working with key metadata sets.

  • Financial Knowledge: Knowledge of financial concepts such as cost accounting and amortization is beneficial for managing cloud financial operations.
